  • Plot Summary

When Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) moves into a small French village dominated by the Catholic Church, she immediately causes controversy. Not only is she a single mother, but she opens her chocolate shop during the period of Lent and remains open on Sundays, the day of worship. Although the residents, led by their pious and controlling mayor Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina), initially snub Vivienne and her sensual sweets, her influence gradually leads them to open up and explore their more sensual sides.
