Chisinau has been populated since ancient times.  Archeologists have discovered traces of man going back thousands of years.  Ancient Romans and other tribes migrated through the area.  In 1818, Chisinau became a city under the Russian Empire.http://www.worldofmoldova.com/en/cities-of-moldova/chisinau/   Moldova has been under the reign of the Romanians, Ottomans, the Russian Empire and the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.  On August 27, 1991, the Republic of Moldova approved a declaration of independence.  It then became an independent state.http://kishinev.info/history_en/
