China-Sudan Relations

  • The relationship between China and Sudan involves China's need for access to the oil reserves in Sudan, and the Sudan's desire for access to China's veto in The United Nations Security Council. Much of the international community has increased pressure on the Chinese government to cease supplying arms to the Sudanese government, which has been linked to much of the killing in Darfur.

In February 2008, film director Steven Spielberg withdrew as artistic adviser to the Beijing Oympics stating that his conscience prevented him for continuing in his role as adviser.
