Child Harness

A child harness is a garment worn by children over their shoulders linked to a tether from the back, commonly used for walking or for safety on an airplane.

The use of tethers of child harnesses date back to the 17th Century in the Netherlands when they were called "leading strings." The use of restraint systems for toddlers has continued over the years since, with more advanced models hitting the market every year.

There is much debate over the use of child harnesses, especially over the past few decades. Many opponents believe that harnesses send the wrong message to a child, using physical force rather than verbal instructions to keep the child safe and close. Supporters argue that these harnesses or leashes allow the child more freedom than if they were confined to a stroller. Many parents support the use of harnesses as a means to control multiple children at one time.
