The chihuahua is a small, muscular dog with a round head, big eyes and ears and a short, pointed snout. The Chihuahua takes its name from the State in Mexico, but the breed goes back to the Aztecs. Chihuahuas can come many different colors and patterns of colors, along with short hair or smooth coat, and a long-haired coat. Chihuahuas are not hairless, but they may have been brought over from China more than 200 years ago.
Temperament
Chihuahuas are alert and intelligent watchdogs that are fiercely loyal to their owners. They are naturally territorial and protective, and prefer the company of their own breed. Pop Culture Chihuahua
In the United States, the American fast food chain Taco Bell, which features Mexican food, launched an advertising campaign in 1997 using the chihuahua as a mascot. The dog's catch phrase, "Yo quiero Taco Bell!" which means "I want Taco Bell," became a popular part of American pop culture.
Chihuahuas have remained in pop culture due to their popularity with movie stars such as Paris Hilton and Madonna. In 2008, the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua released, causing another spike in popularity and sales with this breed.

Most people think that Chihuahuas are simple lap dogs, or just pooches to put in purses. This video shows that not only are they trainable, they can also participate in agility tricks that are usually focused on larger breed dogs.
