Chicago Vies for 2016 Olympics
Chicago is currently in the [[Chicago Olympics 2016 | running] to be the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Barack Obama's presidential election victory likely helped Chicago's chances of winning the bid. Other potential cities include: Madrid, Spain; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Tokyo, Japan; the latter of which is considered the frontrunner. The IOC (International Olympic Committee) will vote on October 2 ,2009 to decide the host city.
Barack Obama
Barack Obama is the 44th and current President of the United States. He is the first African-American to hold this position. Prior to his presidency, Obama had been a junior United States Senator from Illinois, serving nearly four years -- January 2005 to November 2008. Obama had also served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.
Obama graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he had become the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. In Chicago, he had also spent time as a community organizer prior to earning his law degree. He had also worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the [[University of Chicago] Law School for 12 years from 1992 to 2004.
