A storm system bolstered by the remnants of Hurricane Ike caused flooding in the Chicagoland area during the weekend of September 13-14, 2008. More than 7 inches of rain fell and more rain was predicted by the National Weather Service. The rain shut down O'Hare airport and flooded streets and homes. The record-breaking precipitation was recorded as the heaviest rainfall on record.
