The Chicago Bulls are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association. They play in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference and have been in the league since the 1966-1967 season. The Bulls franchise rose to stardom during the 1990’s winning six titles in eight seasons behind Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. While there are many plays in basketball that can be described as a highlight, one of most best plays that always leaves fans coming back for more is when a team hits a clutch shot in the closing seconds of a game, especially in the playoffs. No player in Chicago Bulls history was more clutch when it came to hitting game winning shots than Michael Jordan.
One of Jordan’s most famous shots came against the Cleveland Cavaliers in game five of the 1988 playoffs in the first round. Cleveland had just taken a one point lead 101-100 and the fans were going crazy and it seemed that the Cavaliers had all but won the game. However, the Bulls would inbound the ball to Michael Jordan and he would take a few dribbles left, and hung at the free-throw line seemingly forever, over the outstretched arms of Craig Ehlo and would nail the jumper giving the Bulls a 102-101 win and their first playoff series win of the Jordan ear.
Another famous buzzer beater Jordan is known for would come five years later in the 1993 against the same Cleveland Cavalier team that the Bulls had beaten in two previous post-season meetings. The Bulls were leading the series 3-0 and were looking to close out Cleveland’s season for good with the New York Knicks waiting in the wings. The Bulls would isolate Jordan against Gerald Wilkins. Jordan took a couple of dribbles attempting to back Wilkins down in the post. Jordan initially lost control of the ball, re-gathered himself and nailed a turn-around jumper as the clock expired, breaking the hearts of Cleveland fans yet again.
Paxson's Dagger Gives Bulls Their Third Straight Championship:
The Chicago Bulls were in jeopardy of losing game six of the 1993 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns. The Suns had mounted a furious comeback after being down 87-79 heading into the final period. The Bulls’ offense was stuck in neutral and the Suns were gaining momentum. The Suns led 98-96 in the closing seconds but destiny would not be on their side as Charles Barkley often mentioned during the course of the series. Check out this video to see John Paxson nail a three-pointer to give the Bulls a 99-98 lead and propel them to their third consecutive championship. Paxson was the only other player aside from Jordan who scored in the fourth quarter.
