Reviews
"Somewhere in the telling, the original premise of the Mari Sandoz novel is lost sight of in a wholesale insertion of extraneous incidents which bear little or no relation to the subject." -Varietyhttp://www.variety.com/review/VE1117789860.html?categoryid=31&cs=1
"It is a stark and eye-opening symbolization of a shameful tendency that has prevailed in our national life—the tendency to be unjust and heartless to weaker peoples who get in the way of manifest destiny." - Bosley Crowther, The New York Timeshttp://movies.nytimes.com/movie/review&OQ=_rQ3D1Q26resQ3D9B0DE3DB1F3FE13ABC4C51DFB467838F679EDEQ26partnerQ3DRottenQ2520Tomatoes&OP=48db6938Q2FQ2BthQ60Q2BwWqhQ20Q3B)Q2BUqvQ20zzwnQ2BzBgqhUqhQ3BQ2B)g8WhwQ2BBh8WhtFzQ24zQ2B)g8WhQ2BBh8Wht
"Over-long, often clichéd and uneven (there are comic interludes complete with cameo performances), but still imbued with moments of true poetry, thanks largely to William Clothier's magnificent Panavision landscapes." - Geoff Andrew, Time Outhttp://www.timeout.com/film/reviews/69134/cheyenne_autumn.html
