Chevrolet

Chevrolet, or Chevy, is a General Motors Company vehicle brand founded by Swiss-born race car driver Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant on November 3, 1911. Chevy offers a range of vehicles including subcompact cars, sports cars and medium-duty commercial trucks.c

Chevrolet Timeline

1911: Chevrolet Motor Car Company is founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant (former founder of General Motors) with investment partners William Little and Dr. Edwin R. Campbell.
1912: The first Chevrolet model, the Series C Classic Six, is sold for $2,150, reaching a top speed of 65 mph.
1913: The Chevrolet "bowtie" logo is adopted.
1915: Louis Chevrolet sells his interest in the company to Durant, giving Durant the funds to regain his control of GM and its presidency for the next five years.
1917: Chevrolet is brought under the GM fold.c
1918: Chevrolet introduces the Model D, a V8-powered vehicle in either the four-passenger roadster model or the five-passenger tourer model.
1923: Chevy builds the one millionth car and founds their first export assembly plant in Denmark.
1929: The first Chevrolet 6-cylinder engine is introduced.
1933: Chevrolet launches the Standard Six, the cheapest six-cylinder car on sale at the time.
1934: The company introduces independent front suspension.
1942: Civilian car production ends for the duration of WWII.
1953: Chevrolet produces the first two-seater Corvette.
1955: The small block Chevy V8 engine is introduced.
1957: Chevrolet introduces their first fuel-injected engine and passenger cars for $484.
1960: Chevrolet introduces the Corvair with rear-mounted air-cooled engine.
1963: One in every 10 cars sold in the U.S. is a Chevy.
1967: The Camaro is introduced.
1975: A new tagline for Chevrolet is released: "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet."
1976: The Chevette is released.
1979: The 100 millionth Chevy is built.
1990: The Chevy Corvette breaks three world records for speed and endurance.
1992: Chevy equips their cars with anti-lock brakes.
1996: Chevy introduces their Vortec engine.
2008: The Tahoe two-mode hybrid and Malibu Hybrid are introduced.c

2009 Restructuring

Following its 2009 restructuring, General Motors (GM) intends to keep four core brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

  12. Silverado (1500, 2500HD, 3500HD, hybrid)
  13. Suburban (1/2 Ton, 3/4 Ton)

Chevrolet Recall

Chevrolet announced that it was recalling 2,200 Corvettes due to defective roof adhesion, which affects 2005-2007 Corvettes and 2006-2007 Corvette Z06s.c 

Also being recalled are 2010 Equinoxes due to a software malfunction that causes multiple systems to become simultaneously inoperative.c
