Chess is a competitive two player board game where the object is to checkmate your opponent's King. It is one of the world's most popular games dating back to the 6th century.
History
The first modern chess tournament was in London in 1851. Adolf Anderssen won the tournament, being named the leading chess master. The World Championship between 1921-1927 ended the German dominance of the game, when Jose Raul Capablanca from Cuba was undefeated for eight years. The Women's World Chess Championship was established in 1927, being one by master Vera Menchik.
