On April 23, 2008, Burton was one of several people who were assaulted by a mentally ill man in a section of downtown Chicago. Shortly after 7:00 p.m., Burton, who was on a break, was attacked by a man who reportedly began punching people at random. Burton was not hospitalized and did not sustain serious injury, but was reported to be "shaken up."
