American gymnast Chellsie Memmel was selected to join the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Memmel injured her ankle on August 3, 2008, but still competed at the Beijing Games and helped the U.S. team win a silver medal.NBC Olympics: Chellsie Memmel

Gymnastics Career
Memmel entered her first major gymnastics competition in 1999. She took home first place all-around at the American Challenge. She joined the U.S. national gymnastics team and helped them win the International Gymnastics Tournament in 2002 and the World Gymnastics Championships in 2003. Memmel also won five events at the Pan American Games in 2003 and was selected as the TOPs Co-Athlete of the Year. In 2005, she won first place all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships and helped the U.S. team take home the Pan American Championship. At the 2008 U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials, Memmel placed second in uneven bars, balance beam and all-around, and earned a place on the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team.USA Gymnastics: Chellsie Memmel -
