Chef, as his nickname implies, was the South Park Elementary cafeteria chef on the animated series South Park.

Although Chef was a ladies' man and often used sexual innuendos when speaking with the South Park kids, he was one of the few adults who would honestly discuss topics like sex and drugs with them. The kids, therefore, often turned to Chef for their advice, which he often provided through song. Chef also occasionally acted as the voice of reason when the adults of South Park went astray, such as when he convinced them all to stop taking Ritalin.

In March of 2006, Isaac Hayes announced that he was quitting South Park after providing Chef's voice for nearly ten years. Hayes reportedly decided to leave the show because he no longer wanted to be associated with a show that disrespected people's religious beliefs. South Park co-creator Matt Stone noted that Hayes didn't object to the shows' satirical treatment of Mormonism, Christianity, Judaism or Islam, but resigned shortly after his own religion, Scientology, was the subject of ridicule.Guardian: Isaac Hayes quits South Park after it satirises Scientology (March 15, 2006)

In the first episode of season ten, entitled "The Return of Chef," the children rescue Chef from the Super Adventure Club, whose members have brainwashed him into becoming a pedophile. As Hayes did not provide the voice for the episode, his lines were patched together using footage from previous shows.
