Cheez Whiz is a pasteurized cheese sauce with the consistency of a dip. It is used mostly as a topping, most famously added to cheesesteaks in Philadelphia restaurants.
The Kraft Foods website recommends using Cheez Whiz for nachos, pasta with broccoli and as a dip enhanced with beer.
Cheese Whiz was developed in the 1950's by a group of Kraft food scientists charged with creating a cheese product that wouldmelt easily, without separating. At one point the company maintained that there were "over 1,000 uses" for Cheez Whiz. Cheez Whiz was introduced as a "Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread", but is now marketed as a "Process Cheese Sauce".http://www.practicallyedible.com/edible.nsf/pages/cheezwhiz
Cheez Whiz Product Variants
In addition to regular Cheez Whiz, Kraft now sells a number of different varieties. These include Cheez Whiz Light, Cheez Whiz Tex Mex, Salsa Con Queso, and Ritz Cheez Whiz 'n' Crackers.
