  • Cheerios is a brand of cereal marketed by General Mills. Cheerios was the first oat based ready to eat cereal and is still popular today. Over the years Cheerios has developed many different varieties such as apple cinnamon, berry burst, fruity, frosted and honey nut.

    In May of 2009, the FDA sent a letter to General Mills advising the company of their promise that Cheerios guarantees to reduce cholesterol is in serious violation of federal rules, calling the product a "drug."     General Mills markets Cheerios as "clinically proven to help reduce cholesterol."
