If you are planning a vacation to any U.S. Disney theme park, you know that it can be an expensive endeavor. Disney vacations don't have to cost an arm and a leg—with careful planning and research, you can find great deals on cheap vacations to Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

In 2009, Disney announced its "Armed Forces Salute" offer, which allows all U.S. military and retired military personnel free, five admission tickets to any Disney theme park in the U.S. Those eligible may also be entitled to up to 40% off on certain rooms at Disney resort hotels. If you are serving or have previously served in the armed forces, taking advantage of these deals could trim a substantial amount off of your vacation. Many deals are to be had in planning a cheap Disney vacation. First, call Disney and ask when their free dining plan is offered. Families can save hundreds of dollars if they travel during these times.

Also, be sure to sign up for promotional offers from Disney. They often send exclusive pin codes, used for discounts on hotels, the dining plan, and/or tickets. Some offers may give consumers free park hoppers or a free "Waterparks and More" option.

Another way to save money would be to get a travel agent who is familiar with Disney properties. Additionally, using an AAA travel agent will entitle travelers to free premiere parking near the front gate. All travel agents should be able to make your ADR's, or advanced dining reservations, and eliminate much of the stress when it comes to planning a vacation to Disney. They will be able to recommend dates you should attend each park due to the expected crowds, and can let you know if you are over-scheduling, a disaster on any vacation.
