Charlotte Lewis

Charlotte Lewis was a character on ABC’s Lost who is played by Rebecca Mader. Charlotte was first introduced in the fourth season as a cultural anthropologist who was sent by Charles Widmore to the island where Oceanic Flight 815 crashed.

Charlotte spent part of her childhood on the Island, where her Mother and Father were members of the DHARMA Initiative. In 1974, Charlotte was there when Sawyer and his group infiltrated the Initiative after they time traveled from 2004. Three years later Daniel came to her in the playground where she was swinging. Daniel warned her that she had to leave the Island with her mother when Pierre Change evacuated the Island. He also warned her that if she ever returned to the Island she would die. The conversation with Daniel upset she so much that she repressed the memory. Charlotte and her mother left the Island during the evacuation, leaving her father behind.

Charlotte spent the rest of her life trying to find the Island again, although her mother kept telling her that she had made it all up. Charlotte had hopes of seeing her father again. She became a cultural anthropologist, and worked even harder to find the Island. While on a dig-site in Tunisia, she found the skeleton of a polar bear, around the bears neck was a collar with the DHARMA logo on it. Charlotte recognized the logo from her childhood, and was pleased that now she knew the Island was real for sure. Later Charlotte was recruited by Charles Widmore to go to the Island in search of Benjamin Linus. So she went with Miles Straume, Daniel Faraday and Frank Lapidus, each member was chosen for a specific reason.

Charlotte parachuted back to the Island as part of the freighter science team. She came across Locke’s group, and was obviously happy to have found the plane crash survivors. But when she mentioned rescue, she was surprised when Locke said they didn’t want to be rescued and took her hostage. Sayid came and offered a trade to Locke, Charlotte for Miles, which Locke accepted. Sayid brought her to the beach camp where Daniel Faraday was, and she realized that the survivors were suspicious of her and Daniel. Later Jack needed his appendix taken out, and Charlotte, Daniel, Sun and Jin traveled to the Staff station to get supplies. Upon reaching the station Daniel offered to go in first to make sure it was safe. Jin remarked to Sun in Korean that he wondered if Charlotte knew that Daniel was in love with her, to which Sun replied "she's a woman, she knows". Charlotte smiled to herself while looking at the both of them, without realizing that she had just given away the fact that she could understand Korean to Jin. Later Jin revealed to Charlotte that he knew she could speak Korean, and he asked her if she would make sure Sun got rescued, to which she agreed to. Later Benjamin Linus turned the frozen wheel, which moved the Island and as a result caused frequent time flashes. Charlotte started suffering the effects of temporal displacement and became unable to travel with the rest of the group. Daniel stayed with her as she rested, and she confided in him something that she just had remembered that a child a crazy man told her she had to leave the island and never go back, or she would die. She then realized that it was Daniel who had warned her from the future. Right after that she succumbed to the illness and tragically died as Daniel comforted her.
