The Charlotte Bobcats play in the Southeast Division of the NBA's Eastern Conference. The Bobcats were established as an expansion team in 2004 to replace Charlotte's previous franchise, the Hornets, who moved to New Orleans two years prior.
The franchise was awarded to the founder of Black Entertainment Television, Bob Johnson. and this would be how the Bobcats would get their team name. The first major move of the franchise would be selecting Emeka Okafor from the University of Connecticut. The Bobcats would post a not so great record of 18-64 in their inaugural season. Emeka Okafor would win the league's Rookie of The Year averaging 15.1 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. In the 2005-2006 season, the Bobcats would draft two players out of North Carolina; Sean May and Raymon Felton. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Emeka Okafor would miss significant time during the second half of the season and the Bobcats would finish with 26-56 record. Following the 2005-2006 season, Michael Jordan became the second largest shareholder and head of basketball operations for the team.
Bobcats Fall To Magic In Game 2 Of 2010 Playoffs
The Charlotte Bobcats made it to the post-season for the first time in the history of the franchise. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, they would be no match for the Orlando Magic and they would be swept in the opening round of the playoffs.
