Charlie Weis

Charlie Weis is the head coach of the University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish football team. Weis will begin his fifth season as head coach of the Irish in 2009.

In February of 2009, Weis appointed himself as the team's offensive coordinator, adding offensive play calling to his head coaching duties. He takes over for Mike Haywood, who left to coach the Miami RedHawks.ESPN.com: Weis Names Self to Run Irish Offense

Buyout Looming?

Coaching Career

Weis has been the Notre Dame coach since 2004. Before being hired by Notre Dame, Weis held various coaching positions with the New York Giants, from 1990-1996, and the New York Jets, from 1997-2002. Weis then moved north, becoming offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2002-2004.

2008 Season

Weis made news in September of 2008 when his comment, "to hell with Michigan" hit the press. He responded that it was a tribute of sorts to the late Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, who once remarked "to hell with Notre Dame."ESPN: Michigan 'amused' by Weis comment

Notre Dame played Michigan on September 13, 2008. Taking Over Play Calling

On November 11, 2008 news agencies reported that Charlie Weis would call offensive plays for the team in their game against Navy.
