Charlie Brown is the 8 ½ year old Captain of the Peanuts gang, Snoopy’s person and a wide-eyed optimist. Recognizable by his round head, one curl of hair, and typically wearing a yellow shirt with a black zigzag- Charlie Brown rarely succeeds, but stays until the end and is always last off the ship.
Charles Schulz, the creator of Lil’ Folks, which was later to become Peanuts, first brought Charlie Brown to life in 1947 in a comic strip for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Three years later, on October 2, 1950, Charlie Brown appeared in a seven newspaper syndication deal, which started both he and Schulz on their way to becoming iconic American figures. http://www.schulzmuseum.org/ Over time, Charlie Brown, like his dog Snoopy, has come to symbolize the entire group of Peanuts kids.
Charlie Brown has remained part of popular culture for 60 years because so many of his struggles, dilemmas and thoughts are those that people can relate to their own lives. http://kidstvmovies.about.com/od/dvdsbycategor1/tp/peanutsdvds.htm Charles Schulz said of his main character, “I like to think of Charlie Brown as being an 'Everyman'—most people would admit to feeling a bit like him at times.”http://www.schulzmuseum.org/faq.html
