Charles Widmore is a character on ABC’s Lost, and is played mostly by Alan Dale as an older man; Tom Connolly and David S. Lee play him as a young and middle-aged man. Charles is a native to the Island, and served as the leader of the Others for a time. He is Penny Widmore and Daniel Faraday's Father, although he is at odds with both. When Charles was first introduced he was portrayed as a rich businessman, who is trying to separate Desmond Hume from his daughter. Later he was revealed as an antagonist.

Sometime before 1977 Charles became the leader of the Others. Richard Alpert went behind Charles’ back to heal Benjamin Linus, stating that he doesn’t answer to Charles. Sometime later, Charles had a son, Daniel Faraday, with Eloise Hawking. Daniel was raised off the Island. In 1988, Charles Ordered Ben to kill Danielle Rousseau, but Ben couldn’t bring himself to when he learned that Danielle had a baby. Instead, Ben stole the baby, Alex, and let Danielle live. Charles was infuriated, thinking that Ben should have killed both Danielle and the baby. Ben told Charles that he isn’t following the will of Jacob. In 1992, the Others exterminated the Dharma workers by releasing a poisonous gas. It was after that when Charles was banished from the Island for repeatedly leaving the Island and having a daughter with an outsider. After Charles made is clear he was opposed of Desmond’s relationship with Penny, Desmond asked Charles for Penny’s hand in marriage. Charles refused. When Desmond was sent to jail, Charles destroyed every letter Desmond wrote for Penny, So that Penny would think Desmond didn’t love her anymore. Charles tried to bribe Desmond with money to never see Penny again, but Desmond refused. Charles spent a lot of time trying to find away back to the Island. A couple months after Flight 815 crashed on the Island, Charles hired a team of mercenaries and scientists to search the Island. The mercenaries were led by Martin Keamy, and their mission was to capture Ben Linus and kill everyone else. The mercenaries failed, and Ben somehow moved the island. After 20 year of exile, Charles went back to the Island on a Submarine. Charles and Sawyer devised a plan to destroy the Man in Black, who it disguised as Locke.
