Champions Online is a super hero massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) set on an Earth where generations of super-heroes have protected the citizens from villains. It was developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Atari. On January 26, 2011, Champions Online became a free-to-play game. However, there are differences in the pay and free-to-play options. The story of Champions Online is revealed as players progress through the areas of gameplay. There are minor and major villains that threaten Earth and other dimensions. The major villains are Doctor Destroyer, VIPER, the ancient Lemurians and Mechanon. Doctor Destroyer and the Lemurians want to take over the world, and VIPER and Mechanon want to destroy it. Champions Online gameplay is action-oriented. There are no auto-attacks. Each enemy or threat has unique abilities or special powers that must be strategically considered in order to be defeated. Character creation allows the player to customize costume pieces, colors, body type, super-powers and appearance of those super-powers. They must choose from eight archetypes, The Behemoth, The Blade, The Glacier, The Grimoire, The Inferno, The Mind, The Marksman and The Soilder. Each archetype has its own superstats and role to play in the game. Superstats are Strength, Constitution, Endurance, Intelligence, Presence, Dexterity and Ego.
