Cessna

Overview

Cessna is an aircraft manufacturing company based in Witchita, KS. Cessna has long been well known for their high wing cantilevered airplanes, especially the Cessna 172 one of the most popular general aviation airplanes in the world. The company has made everything from general aviation aircraft to business jets, helicopters, gliders, military aircraft, and parts for military aircraft in WW2.

Currently, they manufacture the 172, 182, 206, 208, all high wing single engine. Also, they make multiple models of their Citation business jet series.

Also they have new models in development from light sport to single-engine piston to jets. The new Citation Mustang is the smallest business jet they make with six seats and part of a new breed aircraft called VLJs (Very Light Jets). The new NGP (Nex Gen Piston) recently showcased at airshows is will be a high-performance composite version for their aging 172/182 design. The new 162 SkyCatcher is a LSA (Light sport aircraft), essentially a new version of their 152 light trainer, made to bring back affordability to flying. It is planned for production in China to save on cost. Although, currently it is having problems with spin recoveries during flight testing.

In 2007 Cessna acquired Columbia aircraft. Columbia produced standard airworthiness certified versions of Lancairs kit-plane designs that are known for their high speed cruise performance.

In current news, like many other companies, Cessna has been laying off employees and lowering production due to the state of the economy.
