  • Career

Cecilia Bartoli rose to prominence as a singer in her 20s, which is considered very young in the opera genre. Despite early criticism for her voice's lack of fullness at that time, she gained popularity in Mozart's "Così fan tutte" and Rossini's "La Cenerentola."

Bartoli also sings traditional classical pieces, and has released several solo albums of compiled said material. As her voice matured through her career, her popularity never seemed to wane.

In terms of Decca sales has been, according to Allmusic, second only to Luciano Pavorotti, and is widely considered one of the best mezzo-sopranos of her time. Her 2007 album, Maria hit #1 on the Billboard Classical charts.
