CBS Evening News, the flagship nightly television news program of CBS, began in 1948 as CBS Television News. In 1963 it gained its current title of CBS Evening News. During the Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather eras CBS Evening News became one of the highest rated television news programs in the country.
