1917: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago begins
1929-1939: Focus on impact of the Great Depression by feeding the hungry, caring for orphans, and operating homeless shelters
1945: Oversees 48 different aid programs including: job training, foster care, maternity care for unwed mothers, day care, care for the aged and the sick, emergency food and shelter, counseling
