Catch-22 is a satirical novel set during the later years of World War II that follows the misadventures of several American Air Force bombardiers.
Critical Reception
Upon publication Catch-22 received mixed reviews ranging from wildly positive; The Nation calling it "the best novel to come out in years", to the exceedingly poor; The New Yorker stated that it "doesn't even seem to be written; instead, it gives the impression of having been shouted onto paper," "what remains is a debris of sour jokes". Over time the book has gone on to be widely considered as one of the most significant novels of the 20th century.
