Cat Power

  • Cat Power is Chan Marshall, an American Singer-Songwriter who is known for her deep, sultry voice.
  • History

    Marshall began performing as Cat Power after dropping out of high school in the early 90's.

    In 1992 she relocated from Atlanta to New York City. While opening up for Liz Phair in 1994 she met Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. Soon after Marshall began touring and recording with Shelley.

    In 1996 Marshall signed with Matador Records and has released six crittically acclaimed albums.

  • Performing

    Early in her career Marshall was prone to having on-stage meltdowns. Sometimes walking off stage mid set not to return.

    In recent years her shows have gotten much more professional. Marshall credits her new found confidence on stage with getting sober.
