Casino is a crime drama that follows the lives of two mobsters, Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro) and Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci), seeking fortune in Las Vegas. A continuation of director Martin Scorcese's fascination with organized crime, Casino not only follows the turbulent lives of its anti-heros, but also chronicles the real-life decline of Mafia activity in '70s and '80s Vegas.
Based on a True Story
The film is based on the book of the same name, which in turn is based on actual events in the lives of Vegas mob figures Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal and Anthony Spilotro. Casino was received positively by most film critics, but derided by some as overlong (three hours).
