The Williams brothers established Cash Money Records in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1990, with backing from their father, and inspired to name the label after the group Cash Money Brothers, in the film New Jack City.http://www.amoeba.com/blog/2009/07/eric-s-blog/cash-money-records-the-independent-years-1991-1998-.html The first artist on the label was Kilo-G, a young local rapper with hardcore lyrics. Relying solely on self-promotion, Kilo-G's album only sold a few thousand copies. The Williams brothers later met DJ Mannie Fresh, who soon became the in-house producer for the label, working on production of a number of albums featuring local rappers.http://www.amoeba.com/blog/2009/07/eric-s-blog/cash-money-records-the-independent-years-1991-1998-.html
The Hot Boys, featuring rappers B.G., Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Turk, signed with Cash Money in 1997. Later that year, two of the Hot Boys, Juvenile and B.G., gained the attention of Universal Records representatives. In 1998, Cash Money signed on to a distribution contract with Universal worth $30 million. The terms of the contract allowed Cash Money to retain ownership of all masters, and entitled the label to 85% royalties.http://www.amoeba.com/blog/2009/07/eric-s-blog/cash-money-records-the-independent-years-1991-1998-.html
Juvenile and B.G. left the label in 2002, claiming a serious mismanagement of funds. Juvenile returned to Cash Money in 2003, signing a $4 million deal. In 2007, Lil' Wayne was appointed president of Cash Money and CEO of Young Money Entertainment, a Cash Money subsidiary. Wayne later resigned as president, but signed back on in 2008.http://www.starpulse.com/Music/Lil_Wayne/Biography/

Juvenile & Lil Wayne - Bling Bling
This video features the music video for the Lil' Wayne and Juvenile song, Bling Bling. The song coined the phrase 'Bling' in reference to diamond jewelry. This song is one of several hits produced by Cash Money in the early 2000's, and in the earlier years of Lil' Wayne's career before he became a solo artist.
