The Cash for Clunkers program began July 27, 2009 and was expected to run through November 1, 2009. However, the program has been more popular than expected, and the program may be suspended due to an exhaustion of money. Cash for Clunkers eligible vehicles must be drivable and no more than 25 years old. In the case of "very large" pickups and vans (8,500 to 10,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight), they must have been made since 2001.
