Rebates on Energy Star Appliances
The State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Progam (SEEARP) was designed to stimulate consumer spending and lessen the nation's energy use. As there is no national standard for the program, each state runs its own appliance rebate program independently. States had a deadline of October 15, 2009, to submit their specific plans to the Department of Energy.http://www.energy.gov/news2009/7634.htm
Each state submitted a plan to the Department of Energy specifying which Energy Star appliances to include in their programs, how much of a rebate each appliance category would receive, how the rebates would be processed and their plan for recycling old appliances.http://www.energy.gov/news2009/7634.htm
Each state allocated the rebate program on a first come, first serve basis. Filing procedure for each state varies, as does the mechanism used in issuing the rebate.
Under the "Cash for Clunkers Appliances" program, consumers receive up to $200 towards the purchase of an energy-efficient appliance such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, air conditioners, and furnaces.
To qualify for the appliance rebate program, consumers are required to purchase an appliance with an Energy Star seal and will receive $50 to $200 off the purchase price. And unlike the Cash for Clunkers program, consumers will not have to trade in their old appliances to get the rebate.http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/08/20/am-energy-efficient-appliances-q/
