Casey Anthony Murder Trail Begins
The infamous Casey Anthony murder trial began today in Orlando, Florida. The 25-year-old former Universal Studios employee has been charged with the murder of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, who disappeared in June of 2008. In October 2008, Anthony was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, to which she pleaded not guilty. In addition to capital murder, Anthony faces six other charges, including providing false information to authorities.c
If convicted by the jury, Anthony could face the death penalty. Prosecutors allege Anthony used chloroform on her daughter before taping over her mouth and nose, cutting off her air supply. She then allegedly stashed the body in the trunk of her Pontiac before disposing of it. Five months after she disappeared, Caylee's remains were discovered by a utility worker on December 11, 2008, in the wooded area near the family's home. Anthony failed to report her daughter missing for 31 days, a fact the prosecution plans to use against her. Anthony's defense claims her daughter drowned in the family pool.c
After three years to get to trial, the case has received nationwide attention.
