Case 39 generally got poor reviews from critics. Out of all the critics who reviewed the movie on the website Rotten Tomatoes, only 23% gave the film a good review. A fire, accidentally started by the special effects crew, went out of control and destroyed the entire Case 39 set in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada on November 2, 2006. No one was hurt, and the cast was not present.
