• How It Came to Be

  Cartoon Network was originally developed by the Turner Broadcasting System as an outlet for Turner's vast library of animated properties, including The Jetsons, The Flintstones and Tom and Jerry. But in 1995, the network began producing their own original programming. After shows such as Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Robot Chicken and the Aqua Teen Hunger Force began to attract a following, the network began producing their own animated shows on a larger scale.

  • October 1, 1992: Network founded as a subsidiary of the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS)
  • October, 1996: Parent company TBS is acquired by Time Warner
  • June 14, 2004: Cartoon Network relaunches with a new logo and the slogan, "This is Cartoon Network"
  • October 15, 2007: Network begins broadcasting in 1080i high definition signal
