Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese car manufacturer partially owned by Ford Motor Company.

1920: Mazda is founded in Hiroshima, Japan by Jujiro Matsuda under the name Toyo Cork Kogyo Corporation, Limited.
1927: The company changes their name to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd.
1929: The company begins making machine tools.
1932: The company exports three-wheeled trucks to China.
1935: Rock drills and gauge blocks begin production.
1945: The atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima.
1951: Tsuneji Matsuda becomes company president.
1958: The Romper, a four-wheeled light truck, is introduced.
1960: The first Mazda two-door passenger car, the R360 Coupe, debuts.
1962: The four-door passenger car, the Carol 600, debuts.
1963: Mazda's cumulative production rises to 1,000,000 vehicles.
1966: The Mazda Bongo debuts, followed by the Mazda Luce.
1967: A Mazda sales company is established in Australia.
1969: The Japan Automatic Transmission Company is established by Ford, Nissan and Mazda.
1970: Mazda begins exports to the United States.
1971: Mazda Motor of America is established and the Mazda Titan debuts, followed by the Savanna.
1975: The Mazda Cosmo debuts.
1979: A new symbol for Mazda is established and cumulative production reaches 10 million vehicles. The Ford Motor Company and Mazda enter into a capital tie-up.c
1981: Mazda, Inc. of North America is established.
1982: Mazda wins Japanese Car of the Year for the FWD Capella.
1984: The company is officially renamed the Mazda Motor Corporation and the Mazda Foundation is formed.
1986: The Festiva debuts.
1987: An OEM agreement with Suzuki is reached for the production of micro-mini vehicles.c
1990: The Cosmo debuts.
1992: The Mazda Global Environmental Charter is adopted and a passenger car with a natural gas engine is developed.
1993: Mazda enters a long-term, strategic relationship with Ford.
1994: A compressed-natural gas-powered truck is developed.
1997: The new "Mazda M" brand symbol debuts and the Mazda Capella Wagon is redesigned.c
2000: The Mazda Tribute debuts at the LA Auto Show.
2002: The Mazda6 is named the NBR Car of the Year.
2003: The Mazda Roadster Coupe debuts.c
2005: Mazda develops the first steel-to-aluminum friction spot welding technology in the world.
2006: The crossover SUV CX-9 debuts at the New York International Motor Show.
2007: Mazda developed the first biofabric made from 100 percent plant-derived fiber for their vehicle interiors.c
