Lotus Cars

Based out of a small village in Norfolk, England, Group Lotus is divided into two branches: Lotus Engineering and Lotus Cars. Lotus Cars designs and builds vehicles with "light weight through high performance" as a guiding philosophy set down by it's founder, Colin Chapman.

Lotus Timeline

1948: The first Lotus is developed by Colin Chapman based on a 1930 Austin 7.
1952: Lotus Engineering Ltd. is established to build race-inspired automobiles.
1954: Team Lotus, the racing arm of Lotus Engineering, is established.
1956: The Lotus Eleven is a class winning car at Le Mans.
1957-1972: The Lotus Seven, the Lotus Elite and the Lotus Mark 6 debut, along with four basic variants.
1960: The Lotus 18 debuts as one of the first race cars with a mid-engine design. 
1962: The Lotus 19 and the Lotus Elan debut.
1963: The Lotus 23 debuts and becomes one of the most popular sports racers in the history of the company. The Lotus Cortina also debuts.
1971: The Clan Crusader debuts.
1974: The Lotus Elite debuts.
1981: The DeLorean DMC12 debuts, a joint venture between Chapman and John DeLorean.
1987: The Type 99T debuts.
1990: The Type 100 Lotus Elan debuts.
1994: Team Lotus dissolves and the army recruits Lotus to develop active suspension and active track tensioning for the Scorpion tank.
1996: The Type 111 Lotus Elise debuts.
1997: The Lotus Esprit V8 debuts.
2000: The Exige debuts, as well as the Lotus Shopping Trolley.
2002: The Lotus Lada and the Lotus ECO2S debut.
2005: The Motorsport Exige debuts.
2006: Lotus unveils a new Aluminum Performance Crossover (APX) concept and Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) in Geneva.
2007: The EVE Hybrid debuts.
2010: The Lotus Elite is announced for a release date of 2014.c
