Founded by former Alfa Romeo race car driver Enzo Ferrari, Ferrari is an Italian-based luxury sports car manufacturer. Owned by Fiat since 1969, Ferrari continues to be active in competitive racing.
Ferrari Timeline
1947: Ferrari, under the leadership of race car driver Enzo Ferrari, produces their first car, the 125 Sport.1961: Enzo fires his sales manager, chief engineer and experimental sports car development chief over internal tensions.
1962: The 250 GTO debuts and becomes one of the most famous sports cars in history.
1968: Vehicle prototypes over 3,000cc are banned buy the FIA.1969: The Ferrari 312P races and the Ferrari 512S debuts. Fiat takes a 50 percent stake in Ferrari.
1972: The Ferrari 312PB debuts.
1973: Ferrari retires from sports car racing to focus on the F1.
1988: Enzo Ferrari passes away and his last new model, the F40, debuts.1996: The F1 team has three wins this year.
2000-2004: Ferrari dominates F1, winning the World Driver's Championship.
2008: Fiat Group takes control of 85 percent of Ferrari with the Mubadala Development Company taking a five 
percent share holding. Enzo Ferrari's second son, Piero, owns 10 perent. Ferrari announces their goal to have hybrids on the market by 2015.c
