ConocoPhillips Company is a multinational energy corporation based in Houston, Texas in the United States considered the fifth largest private sector energy corp. in the world. ConocoPhillips is also one of the six "supermajor" vertically integrated oil companies.c

ConocoPhillips Timeline

1875: Conoco founder Isaac E. Blake has the idea to make kerosene available and affordable to consumers in Utah, creating the Continental Oil and Transportation Company.

1885: Standard Oil takes control of Continental.

1905: The Phillips Petroleum Company is founded when Frank and L.E. Phillips hit the first of 81 oil wells.

1909: Continental builds the first filling station.

1913: Standard Oil relinquishes control of Continental as a result of a U.S. Supreme Court order.

1929: Continental Oil and Transportation merges with Marland Oil Company under the name "Continental Oil Company" – Conoco.

1937: The company gives 5,000 bonus checks amounting to $770,000 to their employees, one of the largest bonuses of any company of the time.

1972: The company diversifies into coal, chemicals, plastics, fertilizers and minerals.

1990: Conoco vows to use double-hulled tankers to transport oil before the industry required them.

2001: Conoco agrees to a merger with Phillips Company to create the sixth-largest publicly traded oil company in the world and the third-largest in the U.S.c

2002: The ConocoPhillips merger is completed on August 30th of this year.

2006: Burlington Resources joins ConocoPhillips.c
