Bentley

Bentley Motors Limited is a British manufacturer of automobiles. Since 1998, the company has been owned by the Volkswagen Group of Germany.

1919: Bentley is founded by Walter Owen Bentley in Britain with the building of the first Bentley 3-litre engine.c

1921: The first Bentley is sold on September 21st.

1922: Bentley wins the British Double Twelve Hours record with a speed of 86.79mph.

1924: Bentley wins at the 24-hour race Le Mans.

1925: The 6.5-litre Bentley engine debuts.c

Great Depression: Rolls-Royce Ltd. buys Bentley Motors and moves production to Derby.c

1940-1949: The Bentley Mark IV with a 4.25-litre engine debuts.c

1950-1959: The R-Type and R-Type Continental debut.c

1965: The Bentley T Series debuts.c

1970-1979: The Bentley T2 and Corniche debut.c

1980-1989: The Bentley Mulsanne, Eight and Turbo R debut.c

1990-1999: The Continental R debuts, along with the Brooklands, the Azure and the Bentley Arnage Red Label. The Volkswagen Group acquires Bentley in 1998.c

2003: Bentley Speed 8s finish third and fourth at the 12-hour race in Sebring, Florida.

2005: The Limited Edition Bentley Arnage Limousine debuts, along with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

2006: The Bentley Arnage Drophead Coupe and the Continental GTC are announced.

2007: The Bentley Brooklands debuts with a limited production.

2009: The Bentley Mulsanne debuts in celebration of Bentley Motors' 90th anniversary.c
