1899: The A. Horch & Cle. company is established by August Horch on November 14.

1901: The first Horch car debuts with a horizontal engine and an alloy crankcase.

1910: Audiwerke GmbH is founded by August Horch on April 25.

1913: The first Wanderer car goes into production and a

5/12 hp four-cylinder engine.

1914: Horch wins first place in the Austrian Alpine Run in an Audi.c

1921: Audi is the first car manufacturer to produce a car with left-hand drive in the Audi Type K.c

1929: J.S. Rasmussen acquires the majority of Audi shares.

1931: Rasmussen produces the DKW small car with front-wheel drive.

1932: Audi becomes a member of the Auto Union along with DKW, Horch and Wanderer.

1933: The first Audi with front-wheel drive debuts at the Berlin Motor Show.

1938: Audi becomes one of the first car manufacturers to

conduct rollover and crash tests.

1941: Audi becomes a supplier of armed force vehicles in the war effort.c

1948: Auto Union assets are expropriated without compensation on the orders of the Soviet military administration in Germany.

1950: The Auto Union produces its first car, post-war

1958: Daimler-Benz purchases the companies in the Auto Union.c

1964: Volkswagen purchases the Audi brand.

1968: The Audi 100 becomes a bestseller, forming the basis for a new Audi model series.

1969: Audi enters the United States market.

1974: The smallest car in the Audi model range, the Audi

50, debuts.c

1980: Four-wheel-drive debuts in the Audi quattro sports coupe.

1989: The Audi 100 is presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder TDI engine.c

1993: The Audi Space Frame debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

1994: The Audi A8 debuts at the Geneva Motor Show.

2002: Audi launches their new tagline, "Never Follow."c

2006: The first Audi SUV, the Audi Q7, arrives in the U.S. market and the Audi R8 sports car debuts.
