Alfa Romeo

With their debut model in 1911, the Italian automobile manufacturer Alfa Romeo began a long history on the racing circuit. Despite their racing success, the company experienced a series of financial difficulties in the 1980s and ultimately merged with Fiat.

Alfa Romeo Timeline

1910: Launched its first model, the HP 24.
1911: The HP 24 made its debut as a race car at the 6th Targa Florio.
1915: Stopped making cars with the advent of World War I and instead constructed military hardware as part of a group of companies controlled by Nicola Romeo.
1920: Now known as Alfa Romeo, Giuseppe Campari made the company's first win driving the 40-60HP at Mugello.
1924: The P2 won the European Grand Prix held in Lyon and Alfa Romeos were the first four cars to finish at the Italian Grand Prix held in Monza.
1933: The Institute for Industrial Reconstruction acquired the company and shifted the focus to producing cars rather than racing.
1946: Successfully returned to the racing circuit with a win at the Grand Prix of Nations held in Geneva.
1950: First model, the 1900, produced entirely on an assembly line.
1954: The Giulietta line debuts.
1960s: The company focuses on competition with production-based cars like the GTA.
1970s: The company concentrates on prototype sports car racing with the Tipo 33, the Tipo 33TT12 and the Tipo 33SC12
1986: Facing financial trouble, the Fiat Group buys into Alfa Romeo, creating Alfa Lancia, Industriale S.p.A.
1987: The first model, the Alpha 164, rolled out under the Fiat-Lancia Group, a merger between Alfa Romeo and Fiatc
1990s: Models produced during this decade combined Alfa Romeo's styling with economic benefits of product rationalisation. 
2005: Maserati joins the Fiat Group.
2007: Fiat Auto S.p.A. was reorganized to create Fiat Automobiles S.p.A., Alfa Rmeo Automobiles S.p.A., Lancia Automobiles S.p.A. and Fiat Light Commercial Vehicles S.p.A.
2008: Two new engines for the MiTo are introduced in the 1.4 and 1.3 JTDM Turbobenzina.
2010: The Giulietta is relaunched.
2011: The Alfa 4C Concept debuts.c
