  • Actress and writer Carrie Fisher was born to show business parents Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in Los Angeles, California, on October 21, 1956. She began performing in Las Vegas with Reynolds as a young teenager, and went on to star in the original Star Wars trilogy of films as Princess Leia. Fisher later found success as an author and screenwriter; her first novel, Postcards From the Edge, was made into a 1990 film starring Meryl Streep.

    In 2008, Fisher authored the book Wishful Drinking. The memoir is an adaptation of her successful Broadway stage show chronicling her youth.
