Actress and writer Carrie Fisher was born to show business parents Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in Los Angeles, California, on October 21, 1956. She began performing in Las Vegas with Reynolds as a young teenager, and went on to star in the original Star Wars trilogy of films as Princess Leia. Fisher later found success as an author and screenwriter; her first novel, Postcards From the Edge, was made into a 1990 film starring Meryl Streep.
In 2008, Fisher authored the book Wishful Drinking. The memoir is an adaptation of her successful Broadway stage show chronicling her youth. Star Wars and Beyond
Fisher was 20 when cast as Princess Leia Organa in 1977, the Star Wars role that would shape the remainder of her career. After the original trilogy of sci-fi adventure films was completed, Fisher appeared in several other 1980s films, including The Man with One Red Shoe, The Burbs and When Harry Met Sally....Fisher is also an occasional "script doctor" in Hollywood, making uncredited rewrites on screenplays. Her novel The Best Awful There Is was released in 2004.
