What She Said
Maloney made the flap during an interview with City Hall, a political website and publication. She was recalling a phone call from someone in Puerto Rico after Gillibrand spoke there about her plans for English-only education. The person stated Gillibrand's plan "was like saying n----- to a Puerto Rican." Maloney repeated the quote in the interview, but later apologized.http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/07/20/2009-07-20_rep_carolyn_maloney_apologizes_over_use_of_nword_but_incident_may_cost_her_again.html
