U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney used the N-word when recalling a story regarding Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in July of 2009. Maloney made the flap during an interview with City Hall, a political website and publication. She was recalling a phone call from someone in Puerto Rico after Gillibrand spoke there about her plans for English-only education. The person stated Gillibrand's plan "was like saying n----- to a Puerto Rican."
