U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney used the N-word when recalling a story regarding Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in July of 2009. She later apologized for the incident, saying "I repeated a word that should never be repeated."http://www.nypost.com/seven/07202009/news/regionalnews/rep__carolyn_maloney_apologizes_for_usin_180402.htm
What She Said
Maloney made the flap during an interview with City Hall, a political website and publication. She was recalling a phone call from someone in Puerto Rico after Gillibrand spoke there about her plans for English-only education. The person stated Gillibrand's plan "was like saying n----- to a Puerto Rican." Maloney repeated the quote in the interview, but later apologized.http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/07/20/2009-07-20_rep_carolyn_maloney_apologizes_over_use_of_nword_but_incident_may_cost_her_again.html-
