The Carolina Hurricanes play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. The team's home ice is the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC. The team was created when the Hartford Whalers of the defunct World Hockey Association were purchased and moved to North Carolina in 1997. The new owner of the club, Peter Karmanos, chose the club name without public input.
The club's colors are red, black and white. The club generally plays with a red uniform and helmet for home games, and a white uniform for away games. The sleeves of the jerseys include black and white bands
The chests of each uniform are decorated with a crest of the club logo: a stylized red, white and black circular design based on the international weather symbol for "hurricane." In addition, each shoulder bears a patch of the alternate logo, which is the maritime warning flag for stormy weather, flying from a hockey stick and with a black triangle behind, representing North Carolina's "research triangle".
The standard club logo was announced on June 16, 1997. Both the standard and alternate logos reflect the “maritime” history of the Whalers, and the regular occurrence of major storms along the Carolina coast
In September 2008, the Hurricanes displayed their alternate uniforms for the first time. Black, with the alternate “storm flag” logo on the chest, the new uniforms include blacked-out versions of the standard logo on each shoulder, and red and white bands on the sleeves. http://hurricanes.nhl.com/index.html
Carolina Hurricanes Jersey
Having been founded in 1997, the club has retained the same jersey, with only minor modifications, throughout its history. There are, therefore, no "classic" uniforms for this team.
