Carly Simon

Carly Simon is an Award-winning singer, performer and musician who became one of the best known female artists of the late 1970s singer songwriter movement. Simon broke through with her 1972 album No Secrets - which contained her signature song "You're So Vain". Since then, Simon has continued to write, record and perform and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994. She was briefly married to fellow musician James Taylor, and has been romantically linked to a number of celebrities throughout her career, including Cat Stevens and Warren Beatty.

Simon had famously never revealed the real subject of her popular 1972 song "You're So Vain". In 2010, she released a new album Never Been Gone, which featured a new version of the song, and features whispering during an instrumental break. According to Uncut Magazine, Simon revealed to them that the whisper is actually her saying the name "David" backwards, and is a reference to music industry executive David Geffen. Allegedly, Simon wrote "You're So Vain" after Geffen had signed her rival, Joni Mitchell, to his record label, Asylum Records.
