Texas man Carlton Turner Jr. was convicted of murdering his adoptive parents in 1998 and sentenced to the death penalty. Appeal denied On April 22, 2008, the Supreme Court announced that they would not hear Turner's appeal. The announcement came just a week after the court ruled that lethal injection procedures in Kentucky did not constitute cruel and unusual punishment. Stay of execution The Supreme Court halted Turner's planned execution on September 27, 2007. Turner's lawyers filed an appeal to halt the execution and Turner was granted a 45 day stay. The appeal was filed after the lethal injection procedures were under investigation in Kentucky. Texas and Kentucky use the same procedures for lethal injection. 1998 murders On August 8, 1998, Turner allegedly shot and killed his adoptive parents and stole their cash, credit cards and personal checks. He reportedly left the bodies in the home and went on a shopping spree. Turner continued to live in his parents' home, later moving the bodies to the garage so he could have a party.
