  • Brief Biography

A native of New Hampshire, Fisk was drafted by the Red Sox in 1967 and joined the team in 1969, although he at first received limited playing time. In 1972, he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award and a Gold Glove for his defensive work as a catcher. Fisk was an integral part of the Red Sox team which won the American League pennant in 1975; his dramatic Game 6, 12th-inning, game-winning home run is considered one of the most exciting moments in Boston sports history. In 1980, Fisk moved to the Chicago White Sox, and appeared on an additional six All-Star Game teams with the Chisox. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000, and both the Red Sox and the White Sox retired his number, with the Red Sox naming the left field foul pole at Fenway Park "Fisk Pole", and the White Sox erecting a bronze statue of the slugger outside U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
